Give your answer to this question below!

I was lucky enough to get the legitmate microsoft windows 7 software downloaded before it was withdrawn from public access, which was available here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx

It looks fantastic from the demonstrations I’ve seen, although before I bed in the windows 7 OS, it would be excellent to see what issues I might possibly be confronted with and at least have some kind of management on how to fix any issues that may crop up during my use of the OS.

I am by a Hp pavillion entertainment PC dv6113tx or pad/laptop and will essentially be upgrading from windows vista home premium, which I am very pleased with, although I want something a small more…..entertaining ;)

I use the following equipment with my laptop:
- HP deskjet F4185,
- Maxtor one touch 750 GB 4 plus,
- Maxtor one touch III mini (100GB)
- Maxtor one touch III (100GB)
- Compaq presario MV500 (for a second monitor)
- Nokia 6110
- Nokia 6280
- Iphone
- Ipod nano
- HP pavillion webcam

I use the following software.

- Microsoft student
- Microsoft office
- Nokia map administrator
- Nokia PC suite
- AOL
- ePreserver
- HP solution center
- HP Photosmart elemental
- Picassa 3
- Logitech harmony remote
- Microsoft works
- Maxtor administrator
- iTunes
- Mozilla firefox 3 beta 4
- Quickplay
- Safari
- Snapfish Picture Mover
- Google chrome
- Avi movie player
- Limewire pro
- Allok MOV convertor
- Irfanview
- Norton 360 (version 2)
- Windows mail

Has anyone had any problems by the above listed hardware and software?

Any general problems related to OS exclusively would also be appreciated!

Cheers

Igloo

I’m writing from Windows 7 right now and never had any problems with the many programs I installed nor with my hardware. Even though it’s a beta, it’s incredibly stable and hasn’t got major problems.

The printer, the 2nd monitor, the external HDs, the webcam and the phones will work (I have similar devices).
The software you listed should work fine (I use most of them too), but you’ll have to bed in Nokia software in Compatibility Mode for Vista and with Administrator Privileges to get it working.

First of all, is this laptop your only PC? If so, I wouldn’t bed in the Windows 7 Beta on it, unless you plot on making it a dual-boot system. The reason being that since Windows 7 is in beta, there may be problems not only with your unfilled hardware and software, but also anything you add later.

It can’t be stressed enough that the Beta was unrestricted to the general public for testing purposes. It’s not a free in commission system. Also, it will expire in 6 months at which point you’d be vital to buy the retail product and replace the beta bed in with that.

As far as your question, I know that right now most Norton products do not work with the beta. I had problems formatting my iPod, although it went fine in Vista. iTunes in general works fine, though.

Other than that, I’ve had no distress with the beta and I use it nearly exclusively now.

Hi igloo.minusice,

My name is Ron, and I'm part of the Windows Outreach Team.

First, that's cool that you downloaded the Beta. Do you have your activation key? If not, head over here and pick it up: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx

Now, I'm sure that you know that Windows 7 is in the Beta testing stage right now, which basically means that they are working out bugs, tweaks and other small nuances that will make the eventual OS you can grab off the store shelf a lot better. That being said, Microsoft still suggests that you do not use Windows 7 as your primary OS – for many this means putting it on a secondary machine. Or, you can go do dual-boot method, which means you have two partitions on your machine and can select with OS to boot from. There's more on that here: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/8572be9b-8580-49f7-9719-b3a4c42749fe1033.mspx

If you're still looking to go ahead, it looks like everything you're working with should be fine. Though, make sure you go here and follow the steps to make backups of your files: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-pc-backup.aspx . It had specific backup info for XP and Vista systems. Be sure you follow these very meticulously so as to not lose any of your vital information.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Ron
