Why is my Blackberry cell phone not working properly?

Whenever I go to use my Blackberry cell phone the screen illumination up like it naturally does but when i try to use anything on the key board it doesn't work. How can I fix this and why Is it happening? I didnt drop it in water, i never drop it and the couple times i did it had a case on. I haven’t been able to use my phone for a while.
Plz help me!!
