Do EPSON printers always run on pigment ink?

Do EPSON printers always run on pigment ink?

Just wondering: Do EPSON printers always run on pigment ink?

Even the ones that are re-manufactured, non-branded, refills?

The reason I ask is that I have been told to get a printer that uses pigment based ink for printing t-shirt transfers, and not dye based inks.

What do you think?

To my understanding all Epson printers use pigmented ink. Whether compatible ink cartridges use pigmented ink is any ones guess and refill ink is the same. Unless it says pigment ink then it is probably dye.

As for pigment being better for t-shirts. Dye ink have better colors but pigment have better light and fade resident qualities so its swings and roundabouts!

You can use any type of ink you prefer. Here’s the deal, go to the site below and purchase a CISS for your printer. Look for pigmented ink there.

Get a CISS for your printer. It will save you TONS of MONEY, never change a cartridge again and it will pay for itself in a month.

yes, all Epson printers use pigment inks.

canon n hp use pigment inks in their graphic arts large format printers.

dye inks are able to produce more richer colors than pigment based ones where as the pigment inks are able to resist the light n water much more.

that due to the particles.

dye inks particles are very small n separated thats why the light breaks the particles easily n tahts why the colors get fade so fast. where as the pigment inks particles are 100 times bigger than those dyes and overlapped and the light needs more time to break the particles thats why their abilities to resist the light is way higher.

genuine Epson ink is pigment. As far as I know, all compatible inks are dye based. Personally, I have not seen a difference on my documents and photos, except for a tremendous savings in cost. I get my epson compatible cartridges from http://www.ccs-digital.com for under $ 3 and they hold almost double the ink of epson cartridges. I’ve been using these for years. My oldest photos are about 10 years old and still look as good as the day I printed them.

I have spoken to people who do transfer to t-shirts and items such as cups. Some say dye is better and some say pigment. A few said that for some items, pigment won’t work at all and it must be dye. For transfer to items such as cups, you usually need a special ink called dye sublimation.

As for which printer to get, the Epson workforce 500 is on sale for $ 79 at epson.com. You might still be able to use code 9FMLYSAV15 to save an additional 15%. This is a scanner/copier/fax/printer with wifi and auto document feeder.

From 2005: my old Epson printer & deranged cat
epson printers

Wu just loves to survey the territory from a relatively hight spot. I junked the Epson a few years ago and got a nice Brother laser printer (safely out of reach of cats). You can see our original Bondi iMac to the right…

I’m sure many of you have had the annoying experience of your Epson printer not being able to even print B/W documents just because 1 or all of your color cartridges are supposedly out. My question is, what can be done about it? Are there any override programs? Are there any brands of printers besides Epson that don’t employ this terrible tactic? I have a CX4800.

This is a consumer safety feature that Epson puts into the printers. The reason for this is because Epson was getting a bad reputation as being the printer company that had clogged printheads, so Epson simply said, “if you are out of a color you can not print AT ALL’. Epson used to let you print in black if you were out of a color, but people would keep printing in black and not replace the empty color ink cartridge. Then 3 months down the road they decided they wanted to print in color, so they went out and replaced the empty color cartridge. In that length of time the ink that is in the printhead reservior had dried up and the person had a clogged printhead. Then they were upset about having to clean the printhead. Depending on how bad the printhead is clogged, you can literally go through a whole set of ink cartridges trying to clean it. So, to save you the time and expense of performing a printhead cleaning and to save Epson’s reputation, they went to the you can not print if a cartridge is empty. This way you are going to replace the empty ink cartridge faster and eliminate a clogged printhead. If you think of the ink as glue, you can see how the wet ink flows, but when it dries out and gets hard, you have a clog. Epson knows you are going to by ink, wether it is black or color, but if they let you print in black (and a lot of people will only print in black) without color, then you are going to end up with a clogged printhead and you aren’t going to like that either. Believe it or not, most printer manufacturers are going to this system for this very reason, so it will be harder and harder to find a printer that will let you print in black if you are out of a color. HP’s that use the tri-color cartridges will allow you to print in black, because the black and the tri-color cartridges come with new printheads. Because they provide new printheads on the cartridges, you are not going to get the same quality as a fixed/permenant printhead. Basically they are disposable printheads, meant for one use and then discard them (ink cartridges).
