Can anybody advice me about LG laptops? Are they good?

Can anybody advice me about LG laptops? Are they good?

I am looking at LG F1-224EG
Core 2 Duo
1GB Ram

Answer by spacemann_spiffff
They are generally of good build and quality however they don’t have good support here in US and are usually overpriced but in Europe and Asia they r popular. The only thing that I can point out about this particular model is the shared VGA memory. If I pay over $ 1000 for a notebook I want it to have dedicated graphics. The Core 2 Duo cpu is also the lowest end in it’s class, below the T7000 serries. Other specs look reasonably good.

Can’t really help you on the cost, but usually there is no point in going past 4Gb. Most operating systems and most programs cannot use more than 4Gb.

Laptops do use different ram types from desktops, and often different from each-other, so a quick stop by the LG website will help you a lot more in the details.

I wouldn’t suggest upgrading to 5GB of RAM. If you are at 4GB, it is sufficient enough to run mostly anything. If you are upgrading from 1GB or something, then I would suggest upgrading to 4GB or 3GB.

If you were to waste money upgrading to 5GB of RAM, it will cost to buy a new RAM stick and all the ram is the same for different laptops. But, not all RAM can be used in your motherboard, so you will have to check when buying that your motherboard can support the RAM you are planning to buy.

Windows 32bit can only use 3.5gb of ram. Vista SP1 allows your laptop to detect what it has, but it cannot utilize it. Also unless your doing cad or something that takes an insane amount of ram you won’t notice any difference between 3gb and 5gb.

Verizon’s 4G LTE network now has the fastest data speeds — so fast that they’re wasted on a phone. Better to get a portable hotspot, and tether your laptop. Msnbc.com’s Wilson Rothman shows you how. (msnbc.com)
