I want to make electronics like iPhones when I grow up.?

Im 15 years old, and I’m serious about creating electronics such as iPhones as my career. Someone told I could go in two different directions. I could create the software or the hardware. My question is, could I do both? If not, which job pays better? I want to work for places like Apple, HP, Samsung, LG etc. What universities are best?

Thanks in advance!

Thats great that your interested in a career like that at such a young age, if you are interested in working for apple take a look here: http://www.apple.com/jobs/us/corporate.html
There is a section for iphone engineering and software engineering. They are two different strands of engineering and can be taken at many accredited universites. Different engineering positions pay differently, but you wont be sorry with your pay cheque.
As for what university to go to, that depends on how well your GPA is, how much money you have, etc, etc. Here are a list of the top 100 uni’s in NA. http://www.4icu.org/topNorth-America/

If you are creating your device, you will need the hardware operating 100% stably and efficiently before even beginning the software. if you do this you will need your own breadboard. i recommend pad2pad as the pcb design software. you can then order pcbs from www.futurlec.com . you can also buy all of your parts there. They literally have every electrical component. If you work for another company, it doesn’t what college. you will learn c++ and javascript and some other common languages, but then i almost guarantee that you will have to learn another programming language for the specific company for which you work.

Electronics such as iPhones takes a whole team of people with different specialities to produce.

I guess specifications and purely aestehic design comes first.
The specialists on the hardware side would then test the feasability of this, they’d have to communicate with people about costs of materials, production etc.

The operating system and software would need to be designed and implemented with communcations to other departments too.

So they way it works in a nutshell. You have a specific job, but need to communicate with others.
You can’t for an example be both a hardware designer and software engineer.
They wouldn’t want to split you over two jobs, instead of solely concentrating on one.

As for which pays better, it depends on company, and what area of software / hardware you’re working with.

And another point companies that produce electronic devices, they’ll often buy hardware in or get a hardware company to produce it for them with given specifications. For example, the xbox 360′s processor was designed by IBM, the video card by NVIDIA, the memory by Samsung or Qimonda, and various disc drives.

My trip to the GWCC this time was to attend the career fair attached to the gigantic BIO International Exhibition. It turned out to be very useful, although I’m not too keen on breaking my balance between engineer and scientist.

It’s way too long with way too many details. This needs to be short, sweet and to the point. You’ve got to try and trim this to one page, maybe just over one page. Save some details for the interview. Take your summary of qualifications and condense them into a cover letter to convey your information.

Put your ITT Tech education above the certificate program – college level educations always get listed before certificates. Put them all at the top of the resume. Put no more than 3 bullet points for any of those listings and use only your most important points. Don’t list so many jobs, list the 3 most relevant jobs. If you want to capitalize on your other experience, you could bullet point the position name, but I don’t think you’re going to have enough room for it.

Most resumes get a 10-second scan through by a potential employer. They can’t take the time to read every little detail. It’s a narrow down process… with a stack of 30 resumes, they’re going to scan them, and hold onto maybe 5 and then read those in depth.
