Dell Laptops?

I am getting a laptop and I don’t know which one to get. I wanted a Mac, but they are SOOO expensive and they only come in black, white and silver. Which for a kid, is pretty lame. I really like how Dell laptops come in so many colors and how they are only $ 499!! But I didn’t know if that’s because they aren’t as excellent as Macs. My dad has a MacBook Pro and I really like it but I just need a nice small laptop that comes in cool colors and can sit on my desk in my room. I won’t need it to do work or anything (I’m a kid!!) but it should work for homework and stuff. Should I get a Mac even though it’s a lot of $ $ $ or a Dell? Thanks for your help!

they have dells that come in a variety or colors. be care with the 499 special from dell most of the time they sell these systems with too small memory. in turn making them perform like doo doo

Well i have a red dell inspiron and i like it. I’ve worked on the macbooks and i like my dell so much more. I’ve got most of the same stuff except for garage band, but i get the beauty of being able to download any program instead of the ones just made for apple.

Get a toshiba. they look pretty cool and are WAY more reliable than dell. The most reliable brands of laptops are toshiba and IBM/lenovo

get a dell XPS theyre fantastic and also very cheap… gateway, ASUS, and toshiba also have really excellent, cheap laptops ina variety of ccolors

I now own a Dell Inspiroin laptop (which is from the lower end of Dell laptop shape. The best quality ones are the Alienware laptops, and the next class are the Studio laptops, and the lower end ones are the Inspiron laptops) and it has been about a year but I could not reckon of any reason to nag about my Dell Inspiron.

Specifically, what makes so many people despise Dell so much?

Eh… people always have negative things to say about everything. I’ve heard terrible things about each brand of laptop, and the negative responses tend to be louder than the excellent ones.

Case in point:
Your positive response is something like
“my laptop’s alright”
“I like it”
etc

But your average negative response is something like
“OMFG! I HATE DELL! DON’T EVER BUY A DELL! THEY ARE CRAP CRAP CRAP!!!!!!!!”

What people don’t realize is that most laptop companies don’t manufacture their own laptops, so the actual model of laptop matters a LOT more than the brand.

Dell has had a tendency to write programs that do not work well with their hardware. With a more simple computer, the hardware will have more simple software and fail less often.

Dell used to be the top computer company in the world because they had a brilliant system, bought quality parts from reputable suppliers and provided fantastic customer service.

As other companies came along to challenge them, HP, Sony, Asus, Lenovo, they were forced to fight to stay on top. Maintaining a position of industry leadership costs money. How do you make more money? One way is to cut expenses. Buy cheaper parts, outsource customer support overseas, incorporate less quality control. Another way is for the Officers to set aside their greed, take salary cuts, and place some of the profit back into the business.

The distress is, Corporations answer to the shareholders, so it’s common for companies to shoot themselves in the foot. They pander to the shareholder to keep the stock high and the dividends flowing, and in the process they force the employees and the consumers to the back of the line. Soon, the company starts to suffer. Employees be converted into disgruntled… they don’t work as hard, or they care less about the quality of their work. Very talented people may quit and go work for the competition. The quality of the product and/or service starts to drop, and once the consumer decides they don’t like the product anymore, the profits fall, the stock falls, and the company starts to spiral down. It becomes like rats on a sinking ship. This is why reputation is so vital in business.

Dell made its own problems by providing inferior quality products and service compared to what they first produced. If you look hard enough, you’ll find that somehow, someway, it’s all because of greed.
