Would I have to get a new sim card to get a new phone?

My current phone is the Sony Ericsson W910i; and I’m on O2 pay as you go. I want to get any the Blackberry Curve 8900 or the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 – but I really don’t want to have to exchange sim cards as I’ll have to exchange my number and I don’t want to do that.
Is there any way to exchange the contract deal (eg to a pay monthly contract) without changing my number?
Or would it be possible to get any phone sim free and unlocked – but would my sim card work with these phones?

ciao. i am thinking of buying a blackberry storm2 but i have a question about it. i am plotting to buy an unlocked blackberry storm2 and have working web/mms with at&t since i have at&t. my questions is, will the $ 10 data plot work for the phone? i’ve had windows mobile phonees which i’ve gotten that one to work but i’m hearing that for blackberry storm2, you will still need the blackberry data plot. is this right? i can’t be paying $ 25 for the 2GB data plot. it costs me too much. i’m fine with paying $ 10.

i currently have an sony ericsson xperia x1 on at&t $ 10 boundless data plot for non smartphones.

Hi Omar, Blackberries have a pushmail ma?tre d'h?tel on their own, this is different from receiving emails via GPRS on normal phones. It offers encryption among its many additional features. That said, to use that service and the Blackberry messenger, you will need to subscribe to Blackberry plans, but if you choose to use normal data instead, you will still be able to receive MMS and emails or surf the web just not blackberry messenger and pushmail service. If emails are vital to you, you should check out the additional features that blackberry provide. If you don’t, well I don’t see any conundrum with a normal data plot really.
