What is wrong with my Samsung refrigerator?

I have a bottom freezer Samsung fridge that the top portion does not cool properly. When I remove the panel on the inside the coils are always frozen even though I have the temperature set above freezing. What the heck is going on, this thing was way too expensive to be having these problems right after my warranty went out.

3 possibilities. Bad defrost heater. Bad defrost timer. Bad thermostat.

Hi. We did not and do not use Samsung refrigerator.
We had a same problem before and replaced a new one.
As my father said, either a compressor or motor had a problem, and we could not repair by our own skills. As you have known it, you should pay for it. If you do not want to replace it, how about using other portions except top one.

You are pretty smart checking the coils. The fact is that the coils should be frozen, but they should not have any frost built up or ice that blocks the air flow. If the coils are more than frozen, and have a build up of ice and frost, then you probably have a defrost problem. The coils are supposed to defrost a couple of times a day, but if they are not, then the ice and frost that builds up blocks the air flow.

Ice build up caused by a bad:
1. Defrost Thermostat
2. Defrost Timer
3. Defrost Heater

No ice build up, the problem may be related to a bad evaporator fan motor. Without the fan, the air cannot be circulated properly.

If the defrost cycles are working properly, and the fan is working properly, there is an outside chance that the cold control is not working.

I had a similar problem. The fan motor froze, from the cold and the refrigerator went into a safe mode and shut down. A hair dryer worked as a temporary fix. I am on my third Samsung in 5years, good luck, there a piece of ….. Mine also produced 5 ice cubes a day.

You want us to tell you how to fix a problem , but neither you or us have any idea what is broke. Start by replacing all the parts you can buy at your local appliance repair shop. After that ,simply call a repair man and see if he can fix what`s broke
