Samsung Tv as computer monitor for Hp Laptop?

I wish to connect my HP mainframe to my Samsung flat screen TV to enable me to watch downloaded TV via BBC iplayer. I have used a male to male VGA cable to connect the tv to the mainframe but all I can seem to get is the social class picture of my mainframe showing on my TV. I was hoping to simply plug the two togther and hey presto but this does not seem to be the case. Any thoughts would be very gratefully received. Thankyou.

It is running as a secondary show. Try to go the mouse cursor to the right side of the screen. It should show up on the tv. You can turn this feature off in the show settings.

I have a newer Samsung computer monitor and have never had a conundrum until 1 hour ago when I went my whole desktop into another room and now the show is pink. I have tried resetting the monitor and the computer how do I fix this?

Try to fix some baggy relations if any, first. You can also try to use your monitor on additional computers.
